Cleaning Ceiling Fans may not seem like the most glamorous chore, but with these quick & easy tips, it can turn a dreaded chore into the easiest one, taking a mere 15 minutes. Consider trying the following:

First off, tape down the fan's switch to ensure that it does not accidentally turn on during the cleaning. Second, prepare the area around the fan by spreading old sheets on the floor & any furniture near the fan. Third, fill a spray bottle with a mixture of water & 2 tablespoons of distilled white vinegar. Use this mixture & spray it inside of an old pillowcase. Next, stand on an extra tall ladder so that you are about a head above the fan. & make sure the ladder has been firmly planted, as well as your footing, & that it has been stretched out fully (a partially extended ladder is a major hazard).

Then slide the pillowcase over an individual blade, pulling the dust off the blade & trapping it into the bag. Do this for each blade while rotating clean spots on the pillow case. Finally, use a cotton cloth for residual grime & to dust off the base & light fixtures. Dust repeatedly. Rinse out that cloth continually, as needed, or replace it for a new one, & make sure to target all areas. Don't miss any spots.

Air Conditioning or a Fan, What to Choose?

The purpose of a fan is to cool your skin not the room, it triggers evaporation from your skin & could make you feel about 8 degrees cooler. A good fan is very efficient for its purpose & will cost 1 cent per hour. You should know that no matter what combination of fans you use will not remove the humidity from the air.

The purpose of an air conditioner is to cool the room & alleviate humidity. A window AC will cost 14 cents per hour, a full house unit will cost 36 cents per hour.

Looking at the cost on a monthly basis, each ceiling fan will cost approximately $1.20 per month. The AC window units would cost approximately $50.40 per unit per month & central AC would cost about $129.60 per month, depending on your use & region.

Benefits to Getting Rid of AC

Switching to fans is a great idea, not only will you benefit from the lower cost; you will help with the environment by reducing the use of carbon fuels. It is good to have fresh air & sounds of the outdoors coming into your windows.

There are options to using fans, ceiling fans, window units, whole house fans or a combination of the different fans will improve your hot weather adjustment. Also, ceiling fans are quite easy to use; it is like turning a light switch.

No matter which direction you decide regarding AC or fans, know the facts & do what will make you happy & comfortable.

How do I wire a ceiling fan & light separately?

How to wire the ceiling fan & lights separately
Wiring your ceiling fan & your lights is quite simple, & you can do it on your own. The primary requirements are step ladder, non-contact voltage sensor, screwdriver, orange wire connectors, & yellow wire connectors. The household circuits usually have a white wire, a black wire, & a bare copper. Having two toggle switches on the wall that'll operate the lights & ceiling fan individually is essential. For each switch, the hot switch runs the motor/bulb & neutral to complete the circuit. Note that the ceiling fan doesn't have ground wire.

What happens when a ceiling fan capacitor goes bad?
