First, leave your shower door open after your showers to allow air to circulate & dry the walls. Using a fan during & after your showers will help to dry out the bathroom. Lastly, if your bathroom has windows, a little bit of sunlight helps to discourage mildew.
One way to help keep your shower clean, is to keep a squeegee in your shower. After you have showered, simply squeegee your shower walls & glass shower door. This will help keep your shower pleasant & cut down on having to scrub when it's time to formally clean your shower.
One precaution is to never use steel wool pads in your shower, or even harsh plastic scrubbing pads or brushes on a plastic tub. These can leave scratches, which would gather water, dirt & mold.
Another warning is to avoid mixing household chemicals, especially bleach & ammonia. If you need to use multiple products to clean, then rinse very thoroughly & allow plenty of time in between each use.
A fun fact is that dryer sheets work very well for cleaning soap scum off of shower glass. To prevent streaks, the trick is to use a squeegee. Another quick tip is to use Mr. Clean magic eraser because the eraser works awesomely when it comes to cleaning scum off of the actual shower.
Selecting Shower Doors
A shower curtain is an effective way to keep water from splattering on the floor, installing a new shower door is an economic way to spruce up you bathroom.
There are three types of shower doors which will determine which type of door you choose: bathtub showers, alcove stand-alone showers & corner standalone showers.
Bypass or sliding doors: These types of doors take up the least space; consist of 2 or 3 panels attached to an upper & lower track, good for large openings of 60 inches. They will slide past each other.
Round doors: These doors open inward, would be good for the corner standalone showers, they attach to top & bottom of a frame, the curved glass design allows for a spacious showering area. These shower doors are often reversible for right or left hand access.
Neo-angle doors: These shower doors take up very little space; they are designed for corner installations, can be installed to open right or left.
Pivot one-panel swing open doors: Opens outward from a one side, usually installed in standalone shower, ideal for small openings typically 36 inches wide but may be as wide as 48 inches, could be installed with one or two fixed panels, usually used in an alcove & corner standalone showers.
When measuring, follow these easy instructions:
Measure the distance from wall to wall at the top & bottom of the opening. Be sure the measurement is to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. If these measurements are not the same, select the larger width for a bypass door, & the smaller width for a pivot door.
