If your restaurant or retail location is using some kind of outdoor LED or neon sign, displayed out front to let others know of the business, then you might want to consider testing such a light regularly. You will especially want to ensure that it is both lit & visible when you are not there, such as in 'later hours' of the day, even at 3am. You want a light fixture that is not torn, cracked, damaged or used up, one that lights up more brightly, even at night, especially.

Check the hardware on your sign often, internally, to ensure it's still up to code & not busted apart, in any sense. You will also want to check that the colors have not faded, even slightly, with time. Because if that's the case, the color brightness on the sign itself, once it's lit, can also dim & fade a bit, or even show those letters off in a different color than what was intended. Account for all this regularly. & sometimes, all you need is to disconnect the light-sign & fixture, disassemble properly (remembering how you did so, in full order, so that you can more easily reassemble later) & give things a full, thorough cleaning & dusting on the inside. Make sure nothing is plugged in, of course, or electrically connected, first. After giving a deep internal clean, reassemble & see if that makes a difference; it should.

While many articles talk about the death of the mall as we know it, what about the birth of the modern American mall?

Bloomingdale's was founded in 1872 & 'The Grand Depot' in 1877. Before malls consumers had to rely on department stores in several locations to get everything they required. Later the open Northgate mall in Seattle became the defining classic “mall”. The Southdale Center (designed by Austrian born victor Gruen) in Edina, Minnesota became the first enclosed mall to open in 1956.

While malls had decades in American culture as a destination for shopping, the shopping landscape has changed rapidly in the last 20 years. While closures mount, individual companies within the mall are struggling to keep up with rising rents & falling foot traffic, with more clientele buying & ordering items online delivery from the comfort of their couches & offices, straight to their front door. There was almost 1500 malls around America by the mid 90's, but less than a thousand today.

In order for the American mall to survive, with financial companies predicting 20-25% of US malls shutting their doors within the next five years, they will have to change. Some malls have been testing ways to draws customers back to malls. In an effort to stay relevant many malls are transitioning into a “destination” for experiences, like converting food courts or the atrium to high-end restaurants, department stores changing to Urgent Care centers, 24/7 workout gyms, movies with IMAX screens, arcades & go carting or even obstacles courses in the common spaces.

Butch Knerr, President of Irvine Co. Retail Properties, told the Los Angeles Times that the $200 million spent on a recent project including a virtual reality attraction was one of the biggest investments made since 1995. The Irvine Spectrum Center added the attraction & 30 additional merchants where an anchor Macy's once stood. Customers can work out, be entertained, use services like spas & nail services & hang out with their kids all in one location. Shopping may not the first thing people think about when it comes to malls anymore!

Edward's Enterprises' retail maintenance hourly labor rates:

$95* an hour Per Employee, 3 Hour Minimum

These are the typical cash or check hourly rates for labor we charge our clients paying at the time of service (not including materials or dump disposal fees).

A store or commercial project may be large or too cumbersome for 1 employee to handle, in which case so we would send 2 or more of our employees to your store or mall at a higher rate than listed above.

Repair Retail Display Laminate Repairs - RepairCompanies that are paying on terms based on contracts will pay higher rates and/or additional travel charges. We charge for all time allotted to a client's project, including purchasing & delivering materials, or offsite work like painting lumber prior to an installation, or for the time to dispose of debris. This allows us to take on smaller projects for our national retail maintenance clients, rather than only lump sum projects with much higher minimums to show up.

Thanks to our processing partner PayPal, we do accept most major credit & debit cards now! Rates are slightly higher, please call our office for all of the details.
